Ukrainian journalists revealed that former Energy and Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko's family lived in 2025 in an undeclared rented apartment of 220 square metres in Geneva. Ukraine's National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) found that he concealed over 55.5 million hryvnias in his asset declaration, including the Swiss rent. The story is part of the wider NABU "Midas" case in which Halushchenko is a main suspect on money-laundering charges.

Ukrainian investigative journalists from the "Schemes" project of Radio Liberty established that the ex-wife of former Energy and Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko, Olha Bohdanova, lived with their children throughout 2025 in a rented 220-square-metre apartment on Quai Gustave-Ador in Geneva's prestigious Eaux-Vives district, on the shore of Lake Geneva. The annual rent exceeded 85,000 Swiss francs (about 4.5 million hryvnias or roughly $9,000 per month). On 15 September, Verkhovna Rada anti-corruption committee chair Anastasiia Radina announced that NACP had completed a full audit of Halushchenko's declaration for the period from the beginning of 2025 to 19 November — his dismissal date as Minister of Justice. NACP concluded that Halushchenko had failed to declare information totalling more than 55.5 million hryvnias, including the Swiss rental, which carries the signs of declaring false information. During the audit, Bohdanova confirmed the family lived in the apartment under a rental agreement in 2025, but did not provide a copy of the contract. Halushchenko told NACP he was unaware of the rental, claiming he divorced in 2022 and only learned of the apartment in 2026 from criminal-case materials.

Halushchenko told NACP he divorced in 2022 and knew nothing about the Geneva rental until he read about it in 2026 criminal-case materials, while Bohdanova confirmed to NACP that the family lived in the apartment under a rental agreement in 2025 but did not provide a copy of the contract. A SAPO prosecutor in court suggested the divorce was purely formal, and journalists cited Bohdanova's Google Maps reviews near the building dated 2023 and 2024 — including visits to an optics shop, a massage salon and a piercing salon, plus a 2025 spa review nearby — as evidence that the family may have been living there earlier than 2025. Halushchenko's lawyers did not provide a substantive response, and Bohdanova did not reply to journalists' inquiries. The facts thus show a conflict between the official's stated ignorance and the surrounding evidence of long-term family presence in the apartment.

Herman Halushchenko served as Ukraine's Minister of Energy from 2021 until July 2025 and then as Minister of Justice until his dismissal by the Verkhovna Rada on 19 November 2025 amid a corruption scandal. He is a main suspect in the NABU/SAPO "Midas" case and was detained on 15 February 2026 while attempting to cross the state border; he is charged with money laundering and participation in a criminal organization, charges he denies. He and Olha Bohdanova divorced in autumn 2022 according to his statement to NACP; a fourth child of the couple was born in Switzerland in 2023. In February 2023 Bohdanova registered an architectural firm in Geneva — Bogdanova Architects (also referred to as B.A.G. Sarl) — whose managers were linked by journalists to offshore structures revealed in the Paradise Papers and to Comatrans SA, a firm that featured in an NABU investigation into inflated road-repair costs in Odesa. Halushchenko's elder son Maksym has studied at the expensive Swiss private school College Alpin Beau Soleil since 2022, with tuition plus boarding reported at up to $200,000 a year.
